EARLY COMTOISE WITH STRIKING AND ALARM
Circa 1730
France

Movement
The week-going, weight-driven movement is constructed between four steel bars with brass bushes and consists of going and striking trains, as well as an alarm. The going train has verge escapement with a long pendulum, consisting of interlinked steel wires and a lead pear-shaped bob. It is suspended from a thread in a high pendulum house. The vertical rack striking indicates the hour fully on the bell and has trip repeat. In addition, the movement has a weight-driven alarm. The alarm time is set by the alarm disc behind the hand and is indicated by its tail.

Dial
The clock has a black dial plate with a brass chapter ring, which has Roman hour numerals, half-hour and quarter hour divisions. The time is indicated by a single beautifully shaped brass hand. The winding holes can be covered by brass shutters. The brass alarm disc has Arabic numerals.

Case
The rectangular case is entirely made of iron and consists of an iron frame, which is covered on all sides with blackened steel sheets. There are two doors to the sides which give access to the movement. The case is surmounted by a pierced front fret, behind which a bell is situated. Behind the bell is a very high pendulum suspension house.
